New Fuel: Hydrogen from Chocolate Waste

Almost every country in the world faces energy deficiency, thus, they are is looking for new fuels. One possible fuel is hydrogen, or more precisely - hydrogen from chocolate. No, this is not science fiction - you can use hydrogen from chocolate as fuel. However, you need to convert the chocolate waste to a usable form. Hydrogen from chocolate is only one of the many options for obtaining hydrogen.

In many aspects, hydrogen is the greatest fuel because only a molecule of oxygen is required and you have electricity from hydrogen. Add to this the fact that hydrogen is abundant in the atmosphere and that when hydrogen is used as a fuel this will cut pollution, and you will see why scientists, technical people and even politicians admire the idea to use hydrogen as a fuel. Nevertheless, do not jump with joy yet because most of the hydrogen from the atmosphere is not usable directly.

Very often hydrogen is not found on its own but as a part of a compound - i.e. water (H2O) or chocolate waste. In order to extract the hydrogen from chocolate or from another compound, a lot of energy is required. Honda is one of the companies actively testing vehicles that run on hydrogen from chocolate and other sources. In the USA, there are many families, who are giving a try to hydrogen-powered vehicles. The tests are still preliminary but the results show that these cars are quite efficient.

However, powering them is certainly an issue. Powering is done only at special Honda facilities where there are solar panels and tanks of hydrogen. For now, when only a few people are using hydrogen to power their cars, this set up could be the solution but will it work when hydrogen-powered cars grow in number? For the time being the most efficient approach to extracting hydrogen is via solar panels. But solar panels are certainly not the only way. Hydrogen from chocolate is a real alternative.

Yes, it might sound funny and unbelievable that you can get hydrogen from chocolate but some UK scientists have discovered that this is possible. Chocolates production involves many waste products and these wastes are rich in hydrogen. In order to turn chocolate waste into hydrogen, you need to apply the 'e coli' bacteria. Hydrogen from chocolate is possible but before mass production starts, more research is necessary.

If the process of extracting hydrogen from chocolate proves successful, it is a safe bet that chocolate factories will play a vital role in hydrogen fuel production. This is a real sensation, especially when you have in mind that more and more people know about the advantages of hydrogen fuel. When you consider the number of chocolate factories in the world, you see how much resources for usable hydrogen exist. All it takes is to show chocolate factories how to apply the e coli bacteria to chocolate.

Thanks to the technological achievements of our age, sophisticated studies for the production of hydrogen from chocolate are now routine. When the private sector and the government join efforts to achieve usable hydrogen, this means that soon we will have plenty of it and the prices will be affordable. Hydrogen from chocolate could be the way to save our planet. Just imagine how many pollution problems will be eliminated when everybody starts using hydrogen to power his or her car!
